I have been following the discussion as someone who hasn't made the
move yet (and I should probably do so very soon because of releases,
but currently I've been travelling a lot and do not have reliable
connection all the way) and trying to learn.
My current impression is that each answer to issues people reported
(as to be expected in a move) is along the line of yet more
complicated settings. That gets me a bit worried about the inflation
of "new technology" requirements.
I just got a new laptop that I formatted for "typical" development
with dual boot. I'm worried about the 8 gigs stuff.
Please refrain from "here are $X, buy yourself a new harddrive".
