U can resize it in GIMP to a lower resolution (using bicubic
scaling). Try it and You will still recognise the gnu. It is not flooded
with details, they are something that makes the gnu look better, I
think. Vector-graphics(thereby scalable and less detailed) gnu version
will be created, if this logo will be accepted.

The background colour is a subject to change. I thought, that pure
white horn color is more attractive than brown/grey horns, the actual
gnu has.
Does anyone else think that horns should be more realistic?
