ia-64 doesn't bootstrap without --enable-shared?!?

Another remark: if I pass --enable-shared explicitly, bootstrap 
completes but then I cannot run 'make check' inside  
.../ia64-unknow-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3, as I usually do everywhere: same 
problem with libunwind not found...

Currently, in order to work, I'm forced to move by hand the new built 
libunwind somewhere in the linker search path (e.g., /usr/lib) :( :(
