ia-64 doesn't bootstrap without --enable-shared?!?

This is a normal linux configuration (ia64-unknown-linux-gnu). All the 
libraries are also built shared by default on linux, AFAIK.

Consider that these machines don't have a libunwind installed 
anywhere... Maybe you are not seeing the problem because you have one 
already?!?
