Performance testing function pointers

It'd be interesting to see this tried on other architectures (or even
subarchitectures, what with branch prediction and caches and such),
and maybe non-ELF targets, with/without PIC, etc.


(Hopefully, someone who knows more about this than I do will come
along and actually be informative.)
