It should retry the build when you actually `make', and fail then.
The advantage being that you don't get a tree configured only for a
subset of the multilibs.
This should probably be documented, with not only a comment, but also
a warning. Would you supply a patch that issues such a warning in
case the build fails? Also, would you please confirm that we retry
the build after configure is done, and fail then? Please post
whatever patch you come up with to gcc-patches@gcc.gnu.org, and Cc: me
such that I don't miss it.
