Breaking up loop.c

Hi,

   I'd like to undertake the proposed "beginner gcc-hacker project" of
splitting loop.c into multiple files. Before I begin I have a couple of 
questions:

   - Is there anyone also doing it?
   - I noticed that gcc header files do not use include guards. Are
there any reasons not to use them? Can I use them?
