    No.  Diego is looking into doing things a bit differently.

That's what I thought might be the situation, but it sounded like he
was stuck unable to reproduce it with the present sources.

I see some failures in the testsuite that aren't in the latest test report,
so I need to investigate them before commiting your gimplify.c changes.

Then my feeling is to remove your TMT change from my tree and see what,
if anything, is still broken so we can give Diego a test case.
