Thanks for approving the --as-needed AC_CACHE_CHECK patch.  This should
hopefully provide users with a way of overriding the check using
--cache-file=.

However, I don't think the main issue has really been addressed, and I
think it could affect targets other than IRIX.  I've filed PR14992 to
keep track of this.  More details in the PR notes.
