G5 fpu optimizations for g77 3.4???

Is there a reason for that ?  From what I hear around me it would be 
handy having *a* Fortran compiler installed by default on MacOS X, even 
if the "preferred" compiler is some proprietary one that has to be 
bought and installed separately.
