Help debugging failure in dwarfout.c on DYNIX/ptx

I'm getting a failure at the abort on line 6400, while compiling libgcc2.c.
I don't know this part of the code very well -- any clues where to start?
Is this likely to be specific to DWARF output, or likely to be a deeper
problem?

(I'm already trying the obvious, which is switching to DWARF 2.)
