Indeed, I wasn't aware that this might have anything to do with the
kernel version. So it might be actually easier to debug on Alpha
Linux. HP offers accounts (http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/),
alternatively I know somebody who would probably hand out accounts to
interested developers (quad ev56).
