gcc on pic micro

there aught to be a gcc port for pic micro controllers 
(www.microchip.com), but, as far as i can tell, there isn't.  i don't 
know if it's because nobody has gotten around to it yet, or because 
it's not really possible due to the limitations of the hardware.

i am thinking about porting it myself, and have started to poke around 
through the porting documentation on gcc.gnu.org.  before i proceed i 
wanted to find out if this would be relatively easy, hard or impossible.
