And why should it?  I mean, it could name the distro, or the glibc
version, or the kernel version, or whatever, and it would be useless
for 100% of the applications that use autoconf tests properly to
detect the features they actually rely on.  Feature tests is the right
way to do it.  If I were in a bad day, I'd probably even suggest
removing version numbers from sparc-sun-solaris triplets :-D
