Intel compiler 8.0 pretends to be gcc 3.2.

This _is_ all a bit troubling.  Intel plainly pictures itself ensconced 
at the very heart of gnu/linux, which would in effect become 
gnu/intel/linux or maybe even intel/gnu/linux.

One would need go no further to understand that gnu/linux is on a fast 
track to the center of the cosmos, because intel wants to make sure that 
linuxtel is just as inevitable as was wintel.

My natural instinct is that the gcc community needs to do more about 
this than to tut-tut, but I have no concrete suggestions.
