Benchmarks

Hi,
Please recommend compiler and performance benchmarks for C, C++, Java,
and Fortran compilers on GNU/Linux systems. What do *you* want to know
about these compilers?
I've been benchmarking compilers since before C++; in 15 years of
writing for magazines and web sites, I still haven't found an ideal set
of benchmarks. While working on a revised (and more comprehensive)
comparison of GNU/Linux compilers, I'm trying to get a feel for what
matters to practioners of the programming arts.
My original comparisons of gcc and icc
(http://www.coyotegulch.com/reviews/index.html) were rudimentary at
best, far simpler than what I would have done for a formal paper or
print publication. My intent was to share information I gathered for my
own purposes; never in my wildest dreams did I expect a quarter-million
people (in terms of unique sites viewing my article) to care about a few
tables of numbers!
Now my goal is a thorough look at many issues surrounding GNU/Linux code
performance. Clearly, the GCC community desires a compiler that performs
well and produce fast, correct code; my intent is to produce independent
information that encourages that desire.
