C compile time

Steve asked the obvious question offlist: with or
without checking. Well, it looks like in the process
of updating, I goofed. As a result, everything has
checking disabled, save for 3.4 mainline (ie the
tree-ssa numbers and the 3.3-branch numbers are good).
I'll have corrected results shortly...
