gcc floating point usage / -mno-implicit-fp status?

Whatever happened as a result of the "gcc floating point usage" thread,

On sh4, we really need an -mno-implicit-fp option to disable the use of floating
point to compile the Linux kernel, but from what I hear on linux-sh,

there's a patch to implement that for gcc-3.2.3 but not for any
newer gcc.  I guess that means I may be stuck at gcc-3.2.3 for the moment,
no matter how much I'd like to update to a newer compiler.

Searching for that option on lkml yields pleas for it on
x86, as well, so it's not just us sh4 and rs6000 whackos that need it...
