dlopen and template instantiation

ah, these messages reminded me that python's default dlopen flag
is RTLD_LOCAL. Calling

sys.setdlopenflags(dl.RTLD_NOW | dl.RTLD_GLOBAL)

before importing my modules solved my problem.
