Oh my...just to clear some confusion, and bring this slightly more on-topic:

GPL'd software obviously is not incompatible with commerce. I pointedly 
and repeatedly stated that anyone is free to provide support (and/or 
custom development work) for gfortran or any other GPL'd software. I 
read the desire for a "guarantee" to imply a guarantee on the entirety 
of gcc itself -- another topic.

However, the point of my original post was that the ASCI report's stated 
goal of "open source front-ends tied to proprietary back ends" is 
completely incompatible with the GPL, and hence gfortran. It is _NOT_ 
"free as in freedom," and I would hope that the national labs change 
their requirements.

As for Ada and Code Sourcery: cool, I never had a reason to investigate 
this. Nevertheless, your statements about Ada Core Technology's 
offerings is completely inline with the intent of my post.
