Will tree-ssa be GCC 3.5?

Although it seems a shame to waste the existing effort in tree-ssa.

I would argue exactly the other way around: if, in some unlikely scenario,
tree-ssa ended up not "working", it would be good to be able to "salvage"
some of the effort in tree-ssa!

But can such a contract be written within the restrictions of the GPL?
For example, could the GPL's gfortran frontend and libraries be used
    with a non-free backend?

Of course not, but what does that have to do with a commercial contract?
There are lots of contracts for the development of free software and that's
what we've been talking about.
