Will tree-ssa be GCC 3.5?

    I don't disagree with that.  Note again that tree-ssa is being funded

By whom?  Is the *project* funded as a project or is it that people who are
currently working on it being paid to do so by their employer?  I think it
is the latter that's true.  But that means that the ability of these people
to continue to work on that (or any other) particular project is dependent
on the priorities of that project within their company.  And that depends
on what projects have funding and which don't.

    But the point is that tree-ssa is going to break things.  

That's *a* point, but not the one I'm making.

    (unless ACT can magically make an Ada compiler appear that builds
    functions as trees ;-).

I don't see that as an issue given the timeframes we're talking about.  The
work involved is far from trivial, but isn't conceptually difficult either.
