how to build gcc 2.95.3 for armv5

Since you're havng a problem unique to MontaVista Linux, the logical
next thing to do would be to ask MontaVista support.

GCC 2.95.3 doesn't support --with-float=soft, which is the problem.  It
would if you were using a much more recent GCC version, or the patches
MontaVista provided with their (our) GCC to support it.
