Okay, this means that the build instructions have to be changed. No
one objected last fall to the current wording. :-/
According to the GNU libc INSTALL document, it's fine to compile
applications with GCC 2.8.1 using recent GNU libc versions (although
the math library tends to expose compiler bugs, but this shouldn't be
an issue).
