No, we cannot unset this for Linux. GCC effectively is the
definition of the ABI for GNU/Linux. We cannot change this definition
without breaking the ABI and creating a backward compatibility problem.
GCC cannot determine when this is fixed by changing the value in a
release. We need to wait until an appropriate point in time when the
32-bit PowerPC GNU/Linux ABI is forced to experience a binary incompatible
change, such as a major version change in glibc.
This is not changing. I think I speak for Geoff as well that we
are going to maintain this compatibility in the GCC configuration for
32-bit PowerPC GNU/Linux.
