It does. Though it's a tedious job to work against powerful tools
like automake that will try to do it differently on every run.
I will certainly alarm the current maintainers about that but
it's not like they had a motivation to change a procedure that
is undocumented but works with all known gcc versions against
one that is fairly new and thus needs differentiation between
different versions.
