C++ front end

I don't see that. In stage 2 you build the front end for language X
using the stage1 C++ compiler. In stage 3 you build it using the stage2
C++ compiler built by itself, and the result should be identical.
Since the stage3 C++ compiler is bitwise identical to the stage2 one,
there is no need to recompile the front end for language X with it.

You only need three stages for compilers written in their own language,
since in that case you compile:
    1)  with a pre-existing compiler
    2)  with the compiler built using the pre-existing compiler
    3)  with the compiler built by itself

Of course, I might be misunderstanding you here...
