Significantly smaller binary sizes today

No, I didn't have the time doing a full binary search (especially given
the instability of the tree during that period).

Those significant reduction I mentioned was for binaries built with
-O3 and -fno-exceptions (and without -g), so I'm not sure whether/how
DWARF2 might be relevant here.
