agreed. I want to measure the effect of compiler and compile time flags
on a given hardware. This way one build up an argument to switch from an
older gcc to gcc-3.1. In an environment with a lot of "never touch a
running system" people this could be helpful.

I am not a gcc developer, so the traffic of this malinglist is a lot for
me. There is a nice html archive of the mailing list at
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc/ which I use since some month. If I had more
time, than I would read each and every mail on the list and subscribe to
the list.
