Have I ever said that note was in effect bogus?  Please do reread what
I wrote.

Indeed, the point being that a non-normative text can be bogus without
making the standard bogus -- that statement on itself doesn;t say the
note is bogus.  The note in question was quoted by Linus as being what
ths standard says; but that part is *non-normative*.
