I had similar NLS problems on my Suns.  Other than that, the vendor-supplied
tools work fine for me too.

Note that GNU ld will be required for 3.1, *iff* you want the symbols in
libstdc++.so to be versioned.  Nobody has announced intentions to write
the symbol map for non-GNU-ld linkers.
