[tree-ssa] AST optimizer in C++?

There used to be a time when the tree-ssa branch was the ast-optimizer
branch ;-)

Anyway, I, too, would like to see the code and maybe play with it a bit.
Daniel, can't you post it as a big patch? It may be a little early to
create a whole new branch for something like this...
