[ast-optimizer-branch] Merging CFG cleanups from trunk

Nathan,

There have been some substantial changes to CFG routines in the
trunk that affect the tree flowgraph.

I'd like to merge those changes into the ast-optimizer-branch to
avoid future merging headaches.
