Is GCC installed?

Go ahead and lump this in the "stupid question" category, but ... how
in the heck do I determine if GCC has ever been installed on this box?
It's running Mandrake 8.0, there's a ton of stuff already installed
when I inherited it, and I'm still a very clumsy linux user. I'm
learning, but ... well, it's a slow process.
