Oops, I thought I was replying just to Florian. The above should be
taken as just an informal viewpoint, I certainly am NOT an expert in
this area. 

In any case, I don't think GCC wants to get into the business of
challenging microsoft patents, valid or not.

I actually think this is not such an essential feature in VB, so it
could be worked around.
