That definitely solves the implied maintenance problem is just
"knowing" the right answer.

But, of course, it's a GNUish extension.  I still secretly cherish the
original hope of the V3 project -- that V3 would become the industry
standard C++ runtime library.  Oh, well, perhaps I will put aside that
hope, and just hope to get it working on AIX for now...
