It occurs to me that the word `release' in the email from Ian that
Jeff forwarded, might have some legal meaning like 'make available to
the public' (i.e cvs commit), rather than mean a 'formal release' in the
open source sense?

With free software what does 'release' mean wrt copyright dates?
