Note that Glibc occasionally breaks binary incompatibility too, even
though it's never supposed to.  I've lost track of the number of times
I've run an old program to see a segmentation fault, or (more rarely) a
symbol that no longer exists, because the version of Glibc is too new.
These things should be caught by a change in soname, but they're not
always.

In other words, robustness is an issue.
