Ah, and I did a bit of detective work. ;-)  Jeff's script for the GCC 2.95
branch is at ~law/egcs/update_branch_version on gcc.gnu.org, in case you
want to reuse that.

Probably we want to add a new directory contrib/gcc.gnu.org or similiar
where we successively put all such scripts?
