Shared library annoyance with gcc-3_0-branch

What is the configure option for doing this? I need g++ support on x86-64
but shared libs are not possible yet. If there are some other problems
with doing this I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me
about it. I vaguely remember seeing some thread here about building a
staticly linked gcc with c and c++ support being hard, but I can't find
it in the archives.
