A gcc 3.0 patch for Linux/MIPS to bring it close to other Linux.

I checked my patch into both the main trunk and the 3.0 branch. It
should only affect the Linux/MIPS targets. But it is not a bad idea
for someone to verify it doesn't break other MIPS targets. Let me
know if it breaks anything.
