Can't build libstdc++-v3 with main CVS branch

I got the complete gcc directory from CVS for gcc. I tried to build and got
the following error

gcc/libstdc++-v3/src/locale.cc  -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/locale.o
xgcc: Internal error: Segmentation fault (program as)
Please submit a full bug report.

make[4]: *** [locale.lo] Error 1

I'm using Red Hat 6.2 but with the following changes

gcc 2.95.3 (build from sources)
binutils 2.10.1 (build from sources)

I'm using glibc-2.1.3 - is that causing the problem?
