I have a binutils RPM installed on my Red Hat 6.2 system that has the
bug, but I'm not sure if it's a standard RPM or if I got it from some
RedHat development snapshot:

  bash$ rpm -q -i binutils
  Name        : binutils                     Relocations: (not relocateable)
  Version     : 2.9.5.0.22                        Vendor: Red Hat, Inc.
  Release     : 6                             Build Date: Fri 04 Feb 2000 09:54:45 AM PST
  Install date: Sat 11 Nov 2000 12:15:34 PM PST      Build Host: porky.devel.redhat.com

In any case, that's a data point about where this version of GAS is in
use.
