GCC RPM file

I didn't think I was so new to linux, and I still have this question.  The first part of the answer is that the gcc folks don't maintain .rpm files; those are done by the people who support individual distributions. AFAIK, every distro comes with a recommended .rpm of some version of gcc, possibly named egcs. The gcc home page attempts to offer useful advice on where to look.  The question, for me, was how to get to gcc-2.95.2, and the best answer appears to be to use whatever compiler comes with your distro to build from the source code distribution from one of the gcc ftp mirror sites.  I have found .rpm's of this version of gcc, but they seem to depend on an upgrade path via several intermediate versions.  Anyway, when you build from source, you have more flexibility, like keeping the official version of your distro available, and choosing your favorite compilation options.
