Help installing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I downloaded the source code for gcc and from there 
i cant seem to get it compiled or nothing.  can anyone please tell me in 
"english"  how to get it installed in my computer.  I am using linux 
mandrake 7.1   I'm sort of new to the linux os, so if some one could 
help me out with this predicament i would be much ablidged.
