As usual, I got lots of flak about the controversial part of my messages.
(RedHat and gcc 2.96). Now, when I ask why 2.95.x was completely 
discontinued, and specifically why I never got any positive answer about

As I mentionned before, I never got any feedback about the relevance of
that patch. Note that I can handle the clerical part of committing this
to the 2.95.x branch, even if no formal release gets out of that. I do
expect your typical distribution vendor to have a Clue and be able to
grasp both the concept of `stable branch' and what this means for cvs
(heck, OpenBSD and FreeBSD got it, how hard can this be ?)
