minor installation problem

I installed the recent gcc/g++-snapshot (from source) on a linux system as root.
After installation, some libraries (e.g. libgcc.a) are not readable and I have to
fix permission by hand. (This has been the case, btw, with all gcc-releases I
remember).
Is there a reason for this, or just nobody has complaint so far?
