sources in GCC repository

I have a few questions.
1) Is the repository a good way to maintain one's copy
at all times? You know, with the daily changes.
2) Should I just wait for 3 to come out (in the next
five years from the looks of things?"

I am a Csound developer. Also, I wanted to update my
GCC collection and though the repositoru would do it.
I use the Cygwin tools.
