  I think that perhaps the one point which *is* relevant to this list is
the issue of having changed the ABI. I don't dispute that the improvements
to the Gcc implementation of the EABI were relevant and worthwhile, but I
wonder whether it shouldn't be seen as a priority when ABI changes are
introduced to provide a backward-compatibility mode through a -m flag. I
haven't searched the list archives for any discussion of this so for all I
know it was considered and rejected for good reasons. Otherwise, I think
it should be taken into account when ABIs are changed in future.

  The rest of this discussion I will take off list with Mr. Stump, who
seems to have taken offense at what I wrote and deserves a considered
answer.
