We could "mv -f *" first and hope it skips the directories, but that's
dangerous. If you have other suggestions, I'm all ears.
Not really. What I normally do is "mv stage1/* ." then do the
subdirectories. So what you propose seems reasonable, though I don't
know why you have the -f.
